GearUP, also called GearUP Booster, is a connection tool for online gamers. It sends your game traffic along routes it picks for you, aiming to cut ping, packet loss and jitter, and it says it changes nothing inside the games. It is run by GearUP Portal Pte. Ltd. in Singapore and lists more than 3,000 supported games. It suits players who get lag or disconnects, especially when connecting to servers in other regions, and households with consoles as well as PCs.

The apps can be used in the UK. You pay for memberships inside the app, so the website doesn't list subscription prices; it's worth starting with the free trial to see whether it makes a difference on your connection. The HYPEREV router is sold through GearUP's own shop in US dollars.

What's worth a look

• GearUP for Windows: the PC app, which can also boost some console games. A free trial is available, then a membership is needed.
• GearUP for Mobile: the Android and iOS version for mobile games, with one-tap boosting.
• HYPEREV Wi-Fi 6 gaming router: a small secondary router for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC that runs GearUP's routing at network level. Currently listed at $39.99 (excluding tax), with free shipping and three months of membership included; Standard Boost stays free on it. The plug options shown are US and EU, so UK buyers would need an adaptor.
• LAN Play: lets you play LAN-only games with friends over the internet.
• Ping Test: shows your current ping to game servers before you download anything.

Current offers

• Free trial of GearUP on Windows and mobile.
• HYPEREV router listed at $39.99 with three months of membership included when we checked.
• Free shipping on the HYPEREV router to most countries.

How to save more

• Use the free trial at the times you usually play before you buy a membership. Results depend on your region, your connection and the game.
• If friends or family also use it, a Duo or Squad team plan shares one membership between two or five people. Teammates must be in the same region as the person who owns the plan.
• Console players should look at the HYPEREV. It includes three months of membership, and the basic boost keeps working without a subscription.

The site also has a Twitch Drops tool, which collects drops for you even when you're not watching a stream, and a list of supported games covering PC, console and mobile titles. Check that your game and region are covered before you subscribe, and remember that it can't fix problems with your own Wi-Fi or a slow broadband line.
