Sucuri is a website security company, owned by GoDaddy, that cleans up hacked sites and helps stop them being hacked again. It suits small business owners, bloggers, online shops and agencies who run their own websites and would rather hand security to a specialist team than deal with malware themselves. It works with any host and any platform, including WordPress, Magento, Drupal and Joomla.

One thing to know before you start: prices are shown and charged in US dollars, so your bank will convert the amount and may add a foreign transaction fee. Plans are priced per website.

What's worth a look

  • One-Time Cleanup, currently $98 per site (shown against $150). Analysts remove malware and backdoors and help with blocklist warnings, with a basic report afterwards. It suits anyone with one hacked site who doesn't want a subscription. Re-infections aren't covered.
  • Website Security Platform, currently $229 a year for Basic, $339 for Pro and $549 for Business. All three include unlimited manual clean-ups, the cloud firewall and regular scans; the higher tiers scan more often (from every 12 hours down to every 30 minutes) and get faster ticket responses. Prices can change.
  • Website Firewall, currently $9.99 a month for Basic and $19.98 a month for Pro. This filters traffic before it reaches your server and adds a CDN for caching. A sensible choice if your site is clean and you want to keep it that way.
  • Junior Dev plan, currently $999.98 a year, aimed at freelancers and small agencies looking after two to five sites. Larger agencies and enterprise sites are priced on request.
  • Sucuri Security plugin for WordPress, free. It scans for malware and offers hardening settings, and makes a good first step before paying for anything.

Current offers

  • The one-time malware clean-up is currently $98 per site, down from $150.
  • The homepage says you can get up to 30% off when you sign up for more than one year.
  • The WordPress security plugin and the SiteCheck scanner are free to use.

Most plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. For the one-time clean-up, a refund is only available if you haven't submitted a clean-up request.

How to save more

  • Work out whether you need a one-off fix or ongoing cover. A single clean-up costs less than a year on the platform, but a yearly plan includes unlimited clean-ups if problems come back.
  • If you can commit for longer, compare the multi-year price with paying yearly.
  • Managing several sites? The chat team offers volume discounts, so ask before buying several single-site plans.

Support runs 24/7 through tickets and live chat, and there's a knowledge base and free email courses if you want to learn more about keeping your site secure yourself.
