5Kind is a small skincare brand run from the Somerset countryside near Wellington. Since 2016 it has been making massage creams, gels and body lotions around four ingredient families: hemp, arnica, bee venom and magnesium. The formulas leave out parabens, sulphates, mineral oils and petrolatum, and the brand says everything is cruelty free.

It suits people who like a cream or gel for a post-walk or post-gym massage, gardeners and tradespeople after a sturdy hand cream, and anyone who prefers buying direct from a small British maker rather than a big chemist chain. Most products come in several tub sizes, so you can try a small one before committing to a big one.

What's worth a look

• Extra Strong Hemp Cream 300ml, currently £24.99. This is the brand's flagship: a hemp oil and arnica cream blended with more than a dozen plant oils and extracts, designed for massage. It also comes in 100ml (£13.99), 200ml, 500ml and one-litre tubs.
• Hemp Active Gel 200ml, currently £16.99. A lighter, non-greasy gel version of the hemp formula for massaging feet, legs and shoulders. Sizes run from 100ml at £9.99 up to a one-litre tub at £49.99.
• Magnesium Night Cream 100ml, currently £14.99. A whipped magnesium body butter scented with lavender and chamomile essential oils, meant as part of an evening wind-down routine. The 300ml tub is £24.99.
• Bee Venom Face Cream 100ml, currently £19.99. Made with responsibly sourced bee venom alongside propolis and royal jelly. The same family includes a body cream and a massage cream at the same price.
• Hemp Hand Cream 100ml, currently £13.99. A thick, nourishing hand cream with hemp seed oil, handy for people whose hands take a battering from work or the garden.

How to save more

• Do the maths on tub sizes. The Hemp Active Gel works out at about 10p per ml in the 100ml size and 6p per ml in the 500ml tub, so if you already know you like it, the bigger tub is better value.
