AML Travel & Tours is a Tanzanian travel company that began in 2015 booking flights and grew into a tour operator. Today it runs safaris in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro climbs and a range of Zanzibar beach holidays, using local guides and drivers. It has an office in Dar es Salaam and a UK phone number, and bookings on its website are taken in pounds.

It suits travellers who want a tailored East Africa trip without going through a large tour company: first-time safari-goers short on time, couples looking for a beach break, and walkers ready for Africa's highest peak. Prices are per person and do not include international flights or visas.

The safari prices cover a 4x4 vehicle with a pop-up roof, an English-speaking guide, park and conservation fees, accommodation and the meals listed in the itinerary. Drinks at lodges, tips, laundry and airport transfers on some trips cost extra. The Kilimanjaro climb includes park fees, hut beds, meals on the mountain, a guide and return airport transfers. How to save more

• Pay in full if you can. Spreading the cost over 4, 6 or 10 monthly instalments adds a 3% fee, and the last payment is due 30 days before you travel.

• Read the cancellation terms and buy travel insurance early. Cancelling inside 30 days of departure means no refund.
