Barceló Hotel Group is a family-owned Spanish hotel company from Palma de Mallorca, with roots going back to 1931. Its booking site lists around 180 hotels in 31 countries under names including Barceló, Occidental, Allegro and Royal Hideaway. For UK travellers, the big draw is the Canary and Balearic Islands, with plenty of all-inclusive and adults-only resorts, plus city hotels in places such as Madrid, Seville, Málaga and Rome. Away from Spain there are hotels in Malta, Madeira, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Asia.

Booking direct on the UK version of the site lets you see prices in pounds, filter hotels by theme (beach, family, adults only, spa, golf, all-inclusive) and add flights if you want a package.

What's worth a look

• Barceló Margaritas, Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria: an all-inclusive hotel with two outdoor pools and a free transfer to the beach and Maspalomas dunes, currently from £111 a night.
• Barceló Teguise Beach, Lanzarote: an adults-only all-inclusive on the seafront at Las Cucharas beach, currently from £142 a night.
• Barceló Santiago, Tenerife: an adults-only all-inclusive with views of the Los Gigantes cliffs and rooms with hot tubs, currently from £149 a night.
• Barceló Fortina Malta, Sliema: a hotel in Sliema with views of the historic centre, currently from £89 a night and an easy option for a short break outside the summer peak.

Nightly prices depend on dates, room type and board, so treat them as a starting point. Several hotels in the Canary Islands, including Barceló Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, Barceló Fuerteventura Mar and Barceló Tenerife, were also showing a 10% discount on the homepage when we looked, as was Barceló Benidorm Beach on the Costa Blanca.
