Fishcave Aquatics is an independent aquatics shop in Brierley Hill in the West Midlands. As well as its shop, it sells online across the UK, from live tropical freshwater fish to complete aquariums, filters, heaters, gravel and fish food.

It suits both new fishkeepers setting up a first tank and hobbyists looking for particular species. Each fish listing has care notes covering origin, adult size, water conditions and good tank mates, which helps you plan before you buy. Live fish travel in insulated boxes by courier.

The online shop lists hundreds of products, from everyday basics such as airline tubing, check valves and algae scrapers to tanks and canister filters from Fluval, Juwel, Tetra and Ciano. On the livestock side there are tetras, rainbowfish, corydoras, plecos, gouramis and a wide choice of South American and African cichlids. Stock of live fish changes often, so some species will show as sold out until the next delivery.

What's worth a look

• Ciano Aqua 60 LED Aquarium, White 58L: a compact starter tank with built-in lighting, currently £89.99. There is also a version with a matching stand.
• Fluval 407 Canister Filter: an external filter for tanks of 150 to 500 litres, featured in the weekly deals, currently £216.99.
• Bolivian Ram Cichlid: a colourful, fairly peaceful dwarf cichlid that does well in groups, currently £9 each.
• Cardinal Tetra: a classic shoaling fish for planted community tanks, currently £2.25 each.
• API Aquarium Start Up Pack: two 30ml water treatments for a new setup, currently £6.99.

Prices and stock can change, especially for livestock, so check the listing before you order.

If you are starting from scratch, set up and cycle your tank before ordering fish. The care notes on each listing tell you the group size and tank volume a species needs.

Live fish orders are covered by the shop's dead-on-arrival policy. If a fish arrives dead, you can choose a refund for that fish or store credit, although delivery charges are not refunded.
