Gusskönig: pre-seasoned cast iron Dutch ovens for hob, grill and fire

Gusskönig is a cast iron cookware brand founded by a group of friends from Konstanz, on Lake Constance, who got into barbecue and campfire cooking. Its UK shop is run by Amzgrand AG from Zurich, prices are in pounds, and returns go back to a warehouse in Germany.

The UK range is short, which makes it easy to choose. It suits anyone who wants one solid pot for slow cooking that can move between the kitchen, the garden barbecue and a campsite fire, and who is happy to give cast iron a bit of care.

Gusskönig says the Dutch oven works on gas and electric hobs, in the oven, on a grill, on coals and over an open fire. Cast iron holds heat well, which suits stews, goulash, chilli, pot roasts and bread. The trade-off is weight and upkeep: the shop recommends washing with warm water and a brush, drying the pot fully and wiping it with a thin coat of oil to keep rust away. Several customer reviews on the site also suggest re-seasoning once before first use, even though it arrives seasoned.
