ió Gut Health Drink is made by The Prebiotic Company, a small business based in Edinburgh. Three friends started developing it in 2019 and launched it in May 2022, first as ió fibrewater. It's a clear, still drink with chicory root fibre and corn fibre dissolved into filtered water, sweetened with stevia and flavoured with natural fruit flavourings. It suits people who like flavoured water and want a lower-sugar alternative to soft drinks.

Each 500ml bottle has 6g of fibre, 21 kcal and 0.6g of sugar. The drinks are vegan and gluten-free, and the bottles are made with 25% recycled plastic.

Please note: when we checked in October 2026, all cases were marked sold out on the ió website, which was pointing shoppers to Amazon UK. It's worth checking the site for stock before planning an order.

What's worth a look

Once opened, a bottle should be kept in the fridge and finished within three days.

How buying works

Each case holds 12 bottles of 500ml, and the subscription lets you choose a delivery every 10, 22 or 34 days depending on how quickly you get through a case. You get an email on the day your order ships, and the subscription page says delivery usually takes two working days, four at most. You can switch flavours or cancel through the link in those emails.

If something isn't right, you have 14 days from delivery to ask for a return of unused goods in their original packaging. Wrong or damaged deliveries can be replaced or refunded if you send a photo. Payment options include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

  • Start with the Mix Box rather than a single flavour, so you don't end up with 12 bottles of one you don't like.
