JSA Timber Products: handmade home bars and wooden furniture

JSA Timber Products is a joinery business from Barnsley in South Yorkshire that makes wooden furniture by hand, much of it to order. Its main line is home bars, from compact L-shaped counters to solid oak back-bar units with optics and glass racks. The online shop also carries shelving, bathroom pieces, serving trays and children's furniture. It suits anyone fitting out a garden room, summer house or spare corner who wants something built rather than flat-packed.

Many of the bars can be made to custom sizes, and the business invites customers to get in touch if the standard dimensions don't fit their space. Delivery times are set out on each product page, because most items are made after you order.

The bar range comes in several named styles. The Monaco has a version with space for a fridge at the front or rear, the Vienna is a larger drinks bar, and the Miami and solid oak shelving units come with optics and glass racks. Outside the bars, smaller pieces include live-edge radiator cover tops from £39, rustic bath boards at £34.99, coat racks and storage boxes. There are also seasonal items such as Christmas coasters, wooden sleighs and tabletop trees.

What's worth a look

• Louisiana home bar: currently from £298.59, an L-shaped bar about 4ft wide with a 2ft return on the side you choose. It arrives ready to use, with no assembly.
• Handmade wooden towel ladder: currently from £65, in 3 or 4 rungs and heights from 90cm to 140cm, with a dark oak or walnut finish. It leans against the wall, so there's nothing to fix.
• Solid oak serving and display tray: currently from £60, in several sizes.
• Live edge-style floating shelf: currently from £30, available in any size with masonry fixings included and a choice of finishes.
• Woodland animal kids' table and chairs set: currently £349.99, in plywood with an unfinished surface ready to paint, or painted for an extra charge.

Prices can change, and custom sizes or finishes may cost more.

How to save more

• Check whether a compact bar does the job before going for a full-size model. The Louisiana starts at £298.59, while the larger solid oak bars run to £899 and more.
• Ask about sizes and finishes before ordering. A made-to-measure piece that fits first time avoids the cost and hassle of sending something large back.
• Order seasonal pieces, such as the Christmas coaster set at £12.99, early, as made-to-order items take several working days to dispatch.
