Laybrook has made electric adjustable beds in the UK since 2004, and it sells them direct from its factory in Bicester. If you or someone you care for would find it easier to sit up, raise the legs or get in and out of bed at the right height, it's worth a look. It also suits couples who want each side of the bed to move on its own, which Laybrook calls a dual bed.

Every domestic bed is delivered by Laybrook's own team, set up in the bedroom and demonstrated before they leave. Most models include a Q-flex mattress made to your weight and preferred firmness, with a free 14-night exchange if it doesn't feel right. One thing to know before you browse: the headline prices exclude VAT, because many buyers with a long-term condition qualify for VAT relief. The VAT-inclusive price is shown alongside.

What's worth a look

  • Chatsworth 3ft Single Adjustable Bed: the entry-level model, with a half-divan base and carved wooden legs. It's currently £599 ex VAT (£718.80 inc VAT), and its one-year guarantee is shorter than on other models.
  • Brompton 2ft 6in Single Adjustable Bed: a divan with lockable castors, a washable mattress cover and optional drawers. It's currently £945 ex VAT (£1,134 inc VAT), with a three-year guarantee.
  • Dorchester 2ft 6in Single Adjustable Bed: upholstered in a beige Belgian damask, with a 5-part frame for multiple positions. It's currently £945 ex VAT after £100 off, and comes with a five-year guarantee.
  • Ashby 3ft Single Adjustable Bed: a solid oak frame with a natural grain finish, for anyone who wants an adjustable bed that looks like ordinary furniture. It's currently £1,595 ex VAT after £100 off.
  • Carers' height-adjustable beds: high-low beds that raise to a comfortable working height for carers. Prices start from £1,890.

Prices can change, and add-ons such as drawers, a stronger frame mechanism or a headboard are priced separately on each product page.

Current offers

  • Autumn Sale: save up to £1,000 on selected adjustable beds.
  • A free Q-flex mattress comes with all adjustable beds except profiling care beds.
  • Free delivery and installation on the UK mainland, usually within 21 working days. Some postcodes, including much of Scotland and the Isle of Wight, carry a surcharge.

How to save more

  • Read the VAT relief page. If you qualify, you pay the ex-VAT price shown, which is 20% less, and Laybrook handles the paperwork when it delivers.
  • Measure carefully before you order. Swapping to a different size after delivery costs £225, and special-order sizes can't be cancelled after 48 hours.
  • If you have a written quote from another retailer for a similar bed, ask Laybrook to match it before you pay the deposit.
