Ovago: flight bookings with phone agents and WhatsApp support

Ovago is an online travel agency run by TripRobotics Inc, a US company with offices in Delaware. Its main business is flights on more than 500 airlines, and the site also offers hotels, car hire, airport transfers, group travel and things to do. Alongside the usual search-and-book website, you can speak to a travel agent by phone, and once a booking is confirmed, updates and help come through a WhatsApp chat.

UK travellers can book through the English (UK) version of the site, and there's a European freephone number, +44 808 196 0481. The main thing to know is that prices and Ovago's own fees are shown in US dollars, so your card provider may add a foreign transaction charge and the final cost in pounds depends on the exchange rate. It suits people booking long-haul or multi-city trips who want an agent to help, rather than those after a quick short-haul hop.

What's worth a look

Ovago's extras and fees are published on its site, so it's worth reading them before you book.

• Price Drop Protection: a paid add-on. If the same flights get cheaper within 24 hours of booking, Ovago rebooks you and gives you 50% of the saving as a flight coupon for your next booking. It's non-refundable and doesn't guarantee a saving.
• Flexible Ticket: lets you change the date or time of your flights without Ovago's change fees, as long as you ask at least 24 hours before the first flight. You still pay any fare difference.
• Cancel for Any Reason: if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure, you get 100% of the ticket cost as airline credit where available, or 80% back as cash. Ovago points out it isn't insurance.
• Change and refund fees: Ovago's fee for a voluntary change or refund more than 24 hours after booking is currently $250 in economy or $350 in business on international flights, and $150 or $250 on domestic flights, on top of airline charges. Cancelling within 24 hours of booking has no Ovago fee.

Current offers

• A $25 voucher for future bookings when you add the Travel Protection Plan, valid for a year.
• No Ovago fee for cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking.
• The site has a flight coupons page, but it didn't list any codes when we checked.

How to save more

• Check the price in pounds before you pay. Paying with a card that has no foreign transaction fee helps when the total is in dollars.
• Use the 24-hour window. If you spot a better fare or your plans change, cancel within 24 hours of booking to avoid Ovago's fees.
• Only add extras you're likely to use. With change fees of $150 to $350, Flexible Ticket or Cancel for Any Reason can make sense for uncertain plans, but not for fixed dates.

Ovago is registered as a seller of travel in California and Florida. Customer service is available around the clock by phone, email and WhatsApp.
