WorldSIM: travel SIMs, eSIMs and portable WiFi to dodge roaming fees

WorldSIM is a London-based company that has been selling travel SIM cards since 2006. Its pitch is simple: rather than paying your home network's roaming charges, you use a prepaid SIM or eSIM that works across many countries and top it up online. It suits frequent travellers, people working abroad, and anyone who wants a separate number for trips. The UK site prices everything in pounds and posts physical items from the UK.

There are two main ways to use it. A calls-and-data SIM or eSIM gives you a UK number that works abroad on pay-as-you-go credit, while a data-only eSIM simply adds mobile internet alongside your usual SIM. If you are travelling with several devices, a pocket WiFi router lets a laptop, tablet and phones share one connection.

What's worth a look

• International SIM Card: a physical prepaid SIM with a UK number and free incoming calls in more than 100 countries. Bundles currently start at £25 (£15 of airtime plus a £10 SIM), with £50 and £100 bundles that include the SIM free.
• International eSIM Pro: the same calls, texts and data service as an eSIM, set up by scanning a QR code. Pricing mirrors the SIM, from £25. A US number can be added for £10 a year.
• eSIM Connect: a data-only eSIM sold by country or region, from single destinations like the USA or Turkey to Europe-wide and global plans. Your usual number stays active, which helps if you rely on WhatsApp.
• Portable WiFi routers: unlocked hotspots from ZTE, Huawei and TP-Link. The ZTE U10 is currently £44.99 and the ZTE U30 Air 5G is £94.99, and each router comes with a free prepaid data SIM.

Prices can change, and the data and minutes shown for each bundle vary by country, so check the tariff details for where you are going.

Current offers

• Save 10% on eSIM Pro and eSIM Connect with the code eSIM10.
• Get a free eSIM and up to 25% bonus credit on selected airtime purchases, shown on the eSIM Pro page.
• Free shipping on orders over £100; otherwise UK recorded delivery is £4 and next day is £7.
• The Data Roaming Internet Dongle is currently on a special price of £19.99 in the portable WiFi range.
• Any portable WiFi router comes with a free international data SIM loaded with credit.

How to save more

• If you travel often, the larger airtime bundles work out better because the SIM or eSIM is included free.
• For data only, eSIM Connect avoids paying for minutes and texts you will not use, and there is nothing to post.
• Check the sale page before buying a router or accessory, as some lines are reduced.

Unopened, unused items can be returned within 14 days, and products carry a six-month warranty.
