Chattr is a SIM-only mobile provider that runs on the O2 network. Everything is sold online on rolling monthly plans, so there's no long contract, and it doesn't run credit checks. That makes it worth a look if you want a cheap SIM for an unlocked phone, a second line, a first phone for a teenager, or a plan you can get even if your credit history is patchy.
It's run by Kashcow Ltd, a company based in Salford. You can keep your current number by asking your old provider for a PAC code and entering it when you sign up. Chattr says it doesn't put up prices every year on its rolling plans, and plans include roaming in 43 European destinations plus access to O2 Priority.
What's worth a look
- Freedom One unlimited: unlimited calls, texts and data, currently £15 a month. This is the plan with loyalty pricing, which drops to £14 a month from month seven and £13 from month twelve.
- Chattr 6GB: unlimited calls and texts with 6GB of data, currently £10 a month. It's the cheapest plan and suits light users who are mostly on Wi-Fi.
- Chattr 25GB: unlimited calls and texts with 25GB of data, currently £11 a month.
- Chattr 50GB: unlimited calls and texts with 50GB of data, currently £12 a month.

- Check how much data you actually use in your phone's settings. If it's under 6GB a month, the £10 plan costs £5 less than unlimited, which adds up to £60 over a year.
- If you need unlimited data, staying put pays: by month twelve the same plan costs £2 a month less than when you joined.
- Make use of O2 Priority, which comes with Chattr plans, for extra perks and discounts with high-street brands.
