Cocktail Crates is a UK shop selling boxed cocktail kits: each one holds the miniature bottles of spirit and liqueur, the mixers and the instructions you need to make a set number of drinks at home. It suits anyone looking for a present a step on from a single bottle, or for a cocktail night in without buying full-size bottles you might only use once. There's a monthly subscription too, and an alcohol-free set for those who'd rather skip the spirits.

What's worth a look

• Espresso Martini Gift Set, currently £46.99: cold brew, Absolut vodka, Kahlua, Frangelico, sugar syrup and coffee beans, enough for four drinks.
• Negroni Gift Set, currently £45.99: gin, Campari, sweet vermouth and soda water for at least four large Negronis.
• Mocktail Gift Set, currently £34.99: three alcohol-free drinks, a Virgin Piña Colada, Passion Fruit Cooler and Virgin Mojito.
• Margarita Charcuterie Box, currently £98.99: a bigger box that pairs the cocktails with crackers, cheese, olives and sweet treats.
• Cocktail club subscription, currently from £37.99 a box: a different cocktail box monthly, every second month or quarterly.

Other ranges are sorted by spirit (gin, rum, tequila, vodka and whisky) and by occasion, including birthday and thank-you boxes. Most standard gift sets sit between about £42 and £49.

Each product page lists what's in the box, including the size and strength of each bottle and how many drinks it makes, so you can compare value between sets before you buy. The boxes come gift-packaged with easy-to-follow recipe instructions. If you're planning a fuller evening, the charcuterie boxes add a selection of food matched to the drinks, and the Body & Mind boxes add pamper products for a night in.

The subscription works a little differently from one-off orders. Boxes are prepared for dispatch on the 23rd of each month and payment is taken on the 20th, and subscribers get cocktails that aren't sold separately. You can also buy a subscription for someone else, or choose a yearly box timed for a birthday or anniversary.
