Fixter is an online booking service for car maintenance across the UK. It doesn't run its own workshops. Instead it works with local garages it has selected and checked, and its drivers collect your car from your home, take it to the garage and bring it back when the work is done. It suits anyone who would rather not lose half a day sitting in a garage waiting room, and it covers all the main car makes. The company is part of Renault Group.

You enter your registration and postcode to get a quote, choose a collection slot and pay once the work is finished. Every booking comes with a 12-month warranty on parts and labour, and its advisors explain any extra work the garage recommends before you agree to it.

What's worth a look

  • MOT test: currently from £49. If your car fails and then passes at another garage, Fixter says it will refund the original test, though collection and delivery fees are not refunded.
  • Car servicing: interim, full and major services, currently from £129. Fixter says an interim service usually takes 1 to 2 hours and a full service 3 to 4 hours.
  • Car diagnostics: a fixed fee of £59 to find out why a warning light has come on or why the car is behaving oddly.
  • Oil and oil filter change: currently from £89, for drivers between services.
  • MOT and service together: booking both at once brings 50% off the MOT and means a single collection.

Prices depend on your car and where you live, and can change.

Current offers

  • 20% off MOTs, servicing and diagnostics until 10 October, as shown in the banner on Fixter's site. Check the discount shows on your quote before you confirm.
  • 50% off an MOT when you book it at the same time as a service.

How to save more

  • Line up your MOT and annual service. Both are usually due every 12 months, so booking them together gets you the half-price MOT and saves a second collection.
  • If a warning light comes on, start with the £59 diagnostic. You will know what the problem is before deciding on any repair.
  • Change or cancel bookings early. Fixter may charge £20 if you cancel within 72 hours of the appointment, because the garage and parts will already have been arranged.

Fixter's advisors can be reached on 0330 808 9527, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6:30pm. Payment is taken by card once the work is complete, and Klarna and PayPal logos are shown on the site.
