Kinship is an online marketplace run by Kinship JP Ltd, which gives its address as Ginza in Tokyo. It says it moved online in 2022 after closing its Tokyo shop during the pandemic, and it sells new designer pieces from brands including Loro Piana, The Row, Maison Margiela, Arc'teryx, Canada Goose, Celine and Goyard. It suits shoppers who know exactly which designer item they want and are comfortable buying from an overseas seller.
It's worth understanding how Kinship works before you buy. It doesn't hold all its own stock: items come from a network of partner retailers, mainly in Japan, and Kinship says the sales contract is with the partner that supplies the piece. Every order goes through an inspection hub in Hong Kong, where Kinship says items are checked by a third-party authenticator and its own quality-control team. It doesn't publish the names of its partners or authenticators.

- Use the price-match policy. Kinship says it will match an identical item that's cheaper at Farfetch, Mr Porter, Net-A-Porter, SSENSE, End., MatchesFashion or Selfridges within 30 days, if you email proof.
- Compare the total in pounds. Switch the currency to GBP and compare the final price with UK retailers before you commit.
- Get the size right first time. Change-of-mind returns go back to Hong Kong at your own cost, so check the brand's sizing before you order.
