Phones Direct is an online shop based near Fareham in Hampshire that sells refurbished smartphones, mostly Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models, alongside a smaller range of brand new phones and accessories. It has been trading since 2012 under Webuyanyphone Limited, and it ships across the UK by DPD. Its customer service team can be reached by phone on 0333 344 2460 or by email, and the returns unit is at the same Hampshire business park.

It suits anyone who wants a recent phone without paying the full new price, parents buying a first smartphone for a teenager, and people who'd rather keep an older handset in use than buy new. Every phone is sold unlocked and SIM-free, so you can put in your existing SIM from any network. In the box you get the phone, a USB charging cable and a SIM tool.

What's worth a look

Refurbished phones are tested with Phonecheck software, data-wiped and graded by how they look. Lower grades cost less but may show light marks. Some listings are marked as refurbishment in progress and are dispatched within five working days, so it's worth reading the shop's condition guide before you choose.
