Al Jazeera Perfumes is a fragrance house with roots in Qatar. It says it started building its collection of perfume oils in 1998 and opened its first shop in Doha in 2002. Its perfumes are created with French perfumers and French raw materials, and the UK website sells only the brand's own scents and those of its sister label, Oryx, priced in pounds and delivered by DPD.
It suits people who enjoy rich, Middle Eastern-style perfumery, with plenty of oud, amber, musk and rose, as well as anyone looking for a fragrance gift that's a little different from department-store names. Bottles are typically 60ml or 70ml eaux de parfum, so this is a considered purchase rather than an impulse buy.
What's worth a look
Prices are as listed on the site at the time of writing and can change.
- Discovery Set: currently £45. Ten 2ml vials of Al Jazeera fragrances, including Venice, Elegant, Sweet Oud, Classic Rose and La Foret. The sensible starting point if you've never tried the brand and want to wear a few before buying a full bottle.
- London, 70ml: currently £130. Opens with bergamot, apple and black pepper, moves to cinnamon, violet leaf and geranium, and settles on cashmeran, vanilla and patchouli. A fresher, easy-to-wear option for those who find oud-heavy scents too much.
- Oryx collection: Oryx perfumes such as Oryx Oud and Oryx Rose are currently £175 each, and the range includes matching hair mists at £90. Worth browsing if you like a scent you can layer across perfume and hair.
- Oryx Oud Scented Candle: currently £70. A candle with oud, musk, vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood and bergamot. Good as a gift for someone who loves warm, woody home scents.
- Home fragrances: Oryx room sprays in oud, amber, rose and musk are currently £60 for 150ml, with reed diffusers at £70.

How to save more
- Buy the Discovery Set first. It costs about a third of a full bottle and stops you spending £130 or more on a scent you might not like on your skin.
- Look at the gift sets, such as Al Rayyan and Al Bairaq at £150, which pair a 70ml bottle with two 6ml minis that are handy for a handbag or travel.
- If you mainly want the scent at home, a £60 room spray is the cheapest way into the Oryx range.
Delivery within the UK usually takes two working days from dispatch, and the UK site doesn't ship abroad.
