Ecotalk is a UK mobile network that sells SIM-only and eSIM plans. It was launched in 2018 by Dale Vince, who founded the green energy company Ecotricity, and it is part of the Green Britain Group. Rather than paying dividends to shareholders, Ecotalk uses money from customers' bills to buy and restore land, working with naturalist Chris Packham on rewilding sites in East Sussex and Devon, including a beaver reintroduction at Bowyers Wood.
It suits people who want a straightforward monthly SIM, are happy to keep using their current phone, and like the idea of their bill going towards nature. Every plan includes unlimited UK calls and texts, 5G as standard and a 30-day rolling contract, so you are not tied in.
What's worth a look
- 100GB data plan: currently £12 a month for the first three months, then £18. A good fit for heavy users who stream on the go.
- 30GB data plan: currently £14 a month, enough for most people who use maps, music and social media daily.
- 10GB data plan: Ecotalk's most popular plan, currently £12 a month. Lighter options are on the same page, with 3GB at £8 a month.
- Just Talk: unlimited UK calls and texts with no data, currently £6 a month. Handy for a basic phone or an older relative.
You can keep your number by texting PAC to 65075 and giving the code when you order. The SIM comes by Royal Mail, or you can choose an eSIM, which arrives by email. Before switching, check your postcode on Ecotalk's network checker.
Current offers
- 100GB of data for £12 a month for your first three months, then £18 a month.
- Unlimited data at half price for the first month (£11), then £22 a month. A fair use policy applies.
- No annual price rises on any plan, as long as you stay on the same plan.
How to save more
- Check how much data you actually use in your phone settings before choosing. Dropping from 30GB to 10GB saves £2 a month, and you can change plan each month because contracts are 30-day rolling.
- If you run out of data, a one-off add-on (1GB for £4, 3GB for £6 or 10GB for £9) can work out cheaper than moving up a tier for a busy month.
- Plan ahead for trips abroad. Roaming in Europe costs £2 a day and comes with a fair use cap, which is 7.5GB on the 30GB plan.
Customer service is based in Gloucestershire and you talk to people, not chatbots. Call 0333 800 5500 (or dial 500 from an Ecotalk phone), Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
