EV Cable Shop is a family business in Rainford, St Helens, that sells charging cables and accessories for electric and plug-in hybrid cars. You may also see it under the name EV King, and evking.co.uk now goes straight to evcableshop.co.uk. The founders say the business started in 2018 after they bought an electric car themselves and found little choice or clear information about charging cables.
It suits new EV owners who need a second cable, drivers whose original cable is too short or has gone missing, and anyone with a car that only came with a 3-pin charger. You can search by make, model or registration to find a compatible cable, and the site explains the difference between Type 1, Type 2 and charging speeds in plain terms.
What's worth a look
- Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable: the standard cable for most modern EVs at home wallboxes and public posts. Currently from £124.99 for 5m at 16A, rising to £349 for 20m at 32A.
- Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable V4: an adjustable 6A to 13A cable for charging from a household socket, currently from £187.99 for 5m.

Every cable comes with at least a two-year warranty. The Type 2 cables are rated IP55 and work between -30C and +50C, so they can stay outdoors.

How to save more
- Do not overbuy on speed. If your car or home charger tops out at 3.6kW, a 16A cable is cheaper than a 32A one and charges just as fast for you. Check with the car-reg tool.
- Choose the shortest length that comfortably reaches. A 5m Type 2 cable is around £30 less than a 10m one.
- Use the price match promise if you find a comparable cable, with similar warranty and delivery, cheaper at another UK retailer.
