Noirgaze is a London handbag label started by designer Vingi Wong, a Central Saint Martins graduate who worked for several fashion houses before launching her own brand. The bags are made by a family-run workshop in Italy and Spain, mostly in Italian calf leather from tanneries rated by the Leather Working Group, with recycled microfibre linings. The shapes are the main draw: curved, sculpted outlines in strong colours, drawing on mid-century design. It suits anyone after a statement bag from a smaller independent label rather than a big fashion house, and the denim pieces offer a lower price point.
What's worth a look
- Scallop Bag: currently £440. The brand calls it a modern take on the vintage baguette bag. It has deep gussets, a curved outline and a polished lock inspired by the artist Isamu Noguchi, with an adjustable strap for shoulder or cross-body wear. It measures about 32.5cm wide and comes in several colours, including tan, black and baby blue.
- Scallop Bag in denim: currently £285. The same shape in indigo denim with patchwork, contrast stitching and frayed edges, finished with silver-tone hardware and a detachable strap. A more casual option for everyday use.
- Skyler Bag: currently £275. A soft denim hobo bag with a zip top, inner zip pocket and adjustable strap. It's the lowest-priced bag in the current range and a practical size for daily use.
- Sunrise Bag: currently £510. The roomiest of the leather bags, with a strongly curved shape, zip closure and detachable straps so you can carry it by the handle or on the shoulder. There's room for a purse, phone and keys.
- Bond Bag: currently £420. A small moulded leather bag on a gold-plated chain inspired by 1960s style. Take the chain off and it works as a clutch, which makes it more of an evening bag.
