Tenth Muse is a UK brand that makes solid perfume: scented balms that sit in a small refillable metal compact you can keep in a bag or pocket. Its site describes the balms as alcohol-free, plastic-free, long-lasting and layerable. They're made with shea butter, coconut oil, organic jojoba oil, beeswax and vitamin E. There are seven scents and five vessel colours. It suits people who find spray perfume too strong, frequent travellers who want something that won't leak, and anyone after a gift that's a bit different.
What's worth a look
- Starter Kit: currently £38, listed at £42. You get one refillable vessel and one balm, both your choice. Tenth Muse says a balm lasts 6 to 7 hours on the skin and about three months if you apply it twice a day. It's the obvious place to start.
- Vanilla Afterglow Solid Perfume Balm: currently £18. It's a warm scent with bergamot and orange on top, then amber, tonka and sandalwood, and vanilla and musk at the base. A good autumn pick, and it's the refill you'd buy once you own a vessel.
- The Warm Layering Set: currently £54. It has two balms (Vanilla Afterglow and Mojo) plus the Clay vessel, designed to be worn layered for a warmer, spicier scent. It suits anyone who wants an evening scent or a ready-made gift.
- The Discovery Bundle: currently £130, down from £150. It contains one vessel and all seven balms, so it's for anyone who can't decide or wants a full scent wardrobe.
- Refillable Vessel St. Barts: currently £24. It's a blue metal compact, sold without a balm. Worth a look if you already have balms and want a second vessel for work or travel.
