8wines is an online wine merchant that ships across Europe and to the UK. The range is big: at the time of writing the site lists more than 1,800 reds, over 900 whites, 235 sparkling wines and a smaller selection of rosé. Prices are shown in your chosen currency (pounds and euros are both available), and the product pages say the price includes 20% VAT and that 8wines pays the delivery duties. It's a good fit if you like to explore beyond the supermarket shelf, whether that's a well-known Rioja or a grower Champagne you haven't heard of.

A quick note on prices: on the day we checked, 8wines loads its prices in your browser rather than in the page itself, so we haven't quoted any figures below. Have a look at each product page for the current price in your currency. Prices can change.

What's worth a look

  • Bread & Butter Chardonnay 2024: a full-bodied Californian Chardonnay (13.5%) that 8wines describes as having ripe tropical fruit, toasted almonds and a soft, creamy texture. One for anyone who likes an oaky, buttery white. It's also sold as a 6-bottle case.
  • La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva 2020: a Tempranillo and Garnacha blend from Rioja with red fruit, toasted oak and vanilla. The page suggests drinking it now or cellaring it for up to 20 years, so it suits a Sunday roast or the wine rack.
  • Henri Champliau Crémant de Bourgogne Authentique Brut: a traditional-method sparkling wine from Burgundy, 82% Pinot Noir and 18% Chardonnay, with red fruit, quince and green apple notes. Worth a look if you want fizz for a celebration without buying Champagne.
  • Domaine Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2023: an old-vine Chablis with lemon, lime, brioche and honeysuckle on the tasting notes. The page says it can be cellared for ten years or more. A good pick for fish suppers.
  • Rose Champagne Tasting Case: six different rosé Champagnes in one box, including Pierre Moncuit Grand Cru Brut Rosé and Paul Bara Grand Cru Rosé. It suits a tasting evening or a generous gift. You'll find more mixed boxes in the cases and mixed cases section.

Current offers

  • Hundreds of wines on sale: the On Sale section listed 759 wines when we checked, sorted by the biggest discount.
  • New customers: use code NEWCUST8J on your first order.
  • Free UK delivery on orders of €450 or more. Below that, the delivery page lists UK charges of €12.43 for 2 bottles, €13.79 for 6 and €15.39 for 12.
  • Rewards points: you earn points on orders. The FAQ says 20 points equal €1 off your next order.

How to save more

  • Buy by the case. Delivery barely goes up between 6 and 12 bottles (€13.79 against €15.39), so one bigger order costs less to ship than several small ones.
  • If you're near the €450 free-delivery mark, add a bottle or two you'd buy anyway rather than paying for shipping.
  • Start in the On Sale section, then use the filters for country, grape and critic score to narrow the 700-plus discounted wines down to the ones you actually want.

Please drink responsibly. Over-18s only.
