UKHost4u is a web hosting company that has been trading since 1999. It's run by Host4u Limited, which is registered in Malta, but its servers are in a UK data centre in Coventry and its plans are priced in pounds. It says it has more than 5,000 customers and offers support by ticket, live chat, email and a UK phone line.
It suits small businesses, sole traders, charities and hobbyists who want a straightforward cPanel host with a UK base, as well as web designers who need room for several client sites. All prices on the site are shown excluding VAT, so add 20% if you're not VAT-registered.
What's worth a look
Prices are as shown on the site at the time of writing and can change.
- Basic web hosting: currently £7 a month ex VAT, or £70 a year. One website with 50GB of SSD storage, 1GB of RAM, daily backups, unlimited email and databases, and a free SSL certificate. The Advanced plan, at £12 a month, covers ten sites with 100GB.
- Managed WordPress hosting: the Professional plan is currently £8 a month ex VAT for one WordPress site, with LiteSpeed, staging and cloning, smart updates and automatic backups. Good if you want WordPress looked after without managing the server.
- Entry VPS: currently £25 a month ex VAT for 4GB of RAM, 2 vCPUs and 50GB SSD, running your choice of Linux or Windows. Aimed at developers and growing sites that have outgrown shared hosting.
- Free web hosting: a basic plan with 10GB of storage, one website, one database and one email account, offered free with a new domain registration or transfer. Fine for a simple brochure site, a club or a charity page, though monthly bandwidth is limited to 256MB.
- Domain names: .co.uk domains are currently £6.99 a year to register and renew, with free transfers in.
