Outsmarted is a board game that plays like a live TV quiz show. The board, dice and figurines sit on the table, and an app on your phone, tablet or laptop hosts the game: it reads out the questions, plays song and video clips, runs the clock and keeps score. The clever part is that it adjusts the difficulty to each player's age, so a nine-year-old and a grandparent can play the same game and both stand a chance. It suits families who struggle to find a game everyone enjoys, and anyone who likes a quiz night.

The standard game comes with more than 10,000 questions across ten categories, and a Breaking News category keeps things topical. Friends and relatives can join remotely on their own devices. The UK store is run by QPlay Ltd in London. You'll need a reasonably recent device (iOS 16, Android 10 or Windows 11) and an internet connection.

What's worth a look

The game itself, plus some of the add-ons that keep it fresh.

Start with the Outsmarted! game. There are three editions: the standard game at £29.99, Kids vs Parents at £32.99 with eight family-themed categories added, and ULTIMATE at £34.99 with ten extra categories. After that, the Question Store sells single categories from £2.49 to £3.49, such as Name the Intro and a seasonal Christmas Challenge. Multipacks bundle several categories together, and Outsmarted Unlimited is a subscription that opens up the full library of 80-plus categories.

Games are quick to learn because the app does the hosting, so nobody has to read the rules aloud or keep score. Up to six devices can connect, and the remote-play option lets a relative join from another house, which works well for Christmas Day calls. The store says that if you subscribe to Unlimited and later cancel, any categories you had already bought stay on your account.

Current offers

We don't have a code for Outsmarted in our feed right now, but the store's own prices are reduced:

  • The standard game is £29.99, down from £39.99. Kids vs Parents is £32.99 (was £49.99) and ULTIMATE is £34.99 (was £54.99).
  • Question multipacks are £9.99 each, against a regular £17.43 for most of them.
  • Every order includes free tracked delivery, fulfilled through Amazon, usually in three or four working days.

How to save more

  • Pick your edition carefully. The ULTIMATE box is £5 more than the standard game but includes ten extra categories, which would cost more bought separately.
  • If you want more questions, buy a multipack rather than single categories. Seven packs for £9.99 works out much cheaper per pack than £2.49 to £3.49 each.
  • Keep the box sealed until you're sure it's a keeper. Opened games can't be returned, and unless the item is damaged or wrong you pay the return postage.
