Tinybeans is a private photo-sharing app for families. Parents upload photos and short videos of their children to a journal that only invited relatives and friends can see, and followers can react and comment in the app or through email updates. That makes it a handy alternative to posting baby pictures on social media, and it works well for grandparents who'd rather get an email than download another app. The company started in Australia in 2012 and the app is available to UK users through the App Store and Google Play.

The free plan lets you upload up to 20 photos and videos a month, with ads shown around your journal. Tinybeans+ removes the ads and the upload limit, adds 200GB of storage and lets you give full subscription features to one follower, such as the other parent. On the UK App Store, Tinybeans+ is listed at £7.99 and £69.99, and there's a lighter Tinybeans+ Legacy plan at £3.99 and £39.99 that keeps 200GB of storage but sticks to 20 uploads a month. Tinybeans also turns your journal into printed photo books and, on iOS, calendars.

Privacy is the main selling point. Only the people you invite can see your uploads, there's no public feed or algorithm, and Tinybeans says you keep ownership of your photos and that it never sells your data. Photo books are printed on glossy 100-weight paper in hardcover or softcover, and you can build one in the app filtered by date or child, or on the website using a date range from your journal. Bear in mind that books started in the app have to be finished and paid for in the app, and the same goes for the website.
