Modibodi makes reusable period and leakproof underwear. It was started by Kristy Chong, an Australian mum of four, who came up with the idea in 2011, and it now sells worldwide. The UK site prices everything in pounds and ships from a UK warehouse, and weekday orders placed before noon go out the same day. Each style has a thin lining built from three layers and comes in absorbencies from moisture-wicking and light up to super, so you can match pairs to your flow or keep a few different ones in the drawer.
It suits anyone looking to cut back on disposable products, parents preparing a teenager for their first period, and swimmers who want something they can wear in the pool.

If you're new to period pants, the Classic Bikini in moderate absorbency is a sensible first pair at £18.99. Once you know your size and preferred cut, the multi-packs are where the savings are: the Basic Mid-Rise Brief Moderate 5 Pack is £60, down from £74.95.
The teen range is well thought through. The My First Period Kit (£22.99) pairs a hipster bikini with a mirror, a neoprene bag, an illustrated booklet and stickers. The SmileyWorld back-to-school kit, with two pairs and a lunch box, is currently half price at £17. There's also period swimwear for teens and adults, including bikini briefs and one-pieces with the same absorbent lining.
Modibodi says its garments are tested to stay leakproof for 100 washes and are Oeko-Tex 100 certified. Absorbency is given as a tampon equivalent on each product page (moderate is up to six), which makes it easier to compare styles.
