Qustodio is a parental control and digital wellbeing app. It was started in Barcelona in 2010 and says more than 9 million parents now use it. You install it on your child's devices, then set rules and check activity from the parent app on your own phone or from a web dashboard. It suits families who want one place to manage screen time across several devices, whether that's a first tablet or a teenager's phone and laptop.

The tools cover the everyday things most parents want to manage: daily time limits, routines for homework or bedtime, web filtering, blocking or limiting games and apps, activity reports and location. It works on Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad, Chromebooks and Kindle tablets. There's also a button to pause internet access, which is handy at mealtimes.

What's worth a look

You can start for free and upgrade only if you need more devices or features. Here are the options:

The Basic plan costs £43.95 a year, the same as £3.66 a month, and covers up to five devices with core tools such as time limits, web filtering, app blocking and location. Complete costs £75.95 a year and covers unlimited family devices. It has everything in Basic plus calls and messages monitoring, custom rules for web, apps and games, YouTube monitoring and more, along with priority phone support through Care Plus. Some features depend on the device: calls and messages on iPhone need a Windows or Mac computer, for example.

Getting set up

Setting up takes three steps, which the get started guide walks you through: create your parent account, install Qustodio on each child's device, then choose your rules. You can change limits and routines at any time from your own phone, so it's easy to relax the rules for a weekend or school holiday. Daily and weekly reports show how time is being spent, which can be a useful starting point for a chat about which apps your children enjoy and why.

Current offers

There are no codes on Qustodio's site at the moment, but the free account comes with a trial of the Premium features and doesn't need a credit card. Premium plans are billed yearly in pounds and have a 30-day money-back guarantee if they don't suit your family.

How to save more

  • Use the free trial to see which features you actually use before you choose between Basic and Complete.
  • Count your family's devices. If you have five or fewer, Basic may be all you need.
  • Check the downloads page first to make sure older devices meet the minimum system versions.
