Trainline is a British ticketing company that started in 1997 as thetrainline.com and is based in London. It is now Trainline plc, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. It sells tickets on behalf of more than 270 rail and coach operators in around 40 countries, and also provides ticketing technology to other travel businesses through Trainline Solutions.
In the UK it sells train tickets for every rail company and coach tickets for National Express. Its range includes advance, off-peak, anytime and season tickets, digital Railcards and European rail tickets, including Eurostar. The app shows live journey information, stores mobile tickets and Railcards, and lets you request refunds and exchanges yourself.
Trainline does not sell its own travel, so fares are set by the operators. It charges a booking fee of 59p to £2.79 on most UK bookings, but there is no fee when you book in the app on the day of travel. Digital tickets have no delivery charge, while collecting at a station costs £2.99. Tools such as SplitSave split tickets and GroupSave fares can bring the cost of some journeys down.
| Delivery | Digital tickets have no delivery fee; posted tickets cost £4.99 by second-class post or £12.99 by next-day Special Delivery. |
|---|---|
| Returns | Eligible UK tickets can be refunded for a fee of up to £5 depending on the ticket value, and booking fees are not refunded. |
| Click & collect | Tickets can be collected from a ticket machine at any UK station within 15 minutes of booking, with a £2.99 fee on web bookings. |
| Student discount | Verified students get 15% off digital Railcards through Student Beans. |
| Armed Forces | Trainline is listed on the Defence Discount Service (official MOD scheme); members see the discount after signing in. |
| App | Booking in the Trainline app on the day of travel avoids the booking fee, and the app has no delivery fees for any tickets. |
| Ways to pay | Accepts Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal, but not cash or rail travel vouchers. |

Usually not: most stores, including Trainline, accept one discount code per order. Automatic deals and sale prices can often be combined with a code, so check the terms on each offer.
Most codes exclude gift cards and items already reduced, and some need a minimum spend or are for new customers only. Open Terms on the code, or tap "Didn't work?" and we'll recheck it.
Tap Get code and we copy it for you. Add your items to the basket on the Trainline website, then paste the code into the discount or promo code box at checkout.
