Samaritans
About Samaritans
Samaritans is a charity that gives emotional support to anyone who is struggling to cope or thinking about suicide. Its first call was taken in 1953, and it now coordinates a network of branches across the UK and Ireland.
Trained volunteers answer calls at any hour, every day of the year, and people can also write or visit a branch. Volunteers also carry out outreach in places such as prisons, hospitals and schools. The charity researches suicide prevention and works on policy and responsible media reporting of suicide.
