About NSPCC
The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is a charity working to stop the abuse and neglect of children. It was founded in 1884 by the Reverend Benjamin Waugh.
It has legal powers to take action to protect children at risk. It runs Childline, a free counselling service for children and young people, which joined the NSPCC in 2006. It also runs a helpline for adults worried about a child, visits schools to teach children about staying safe, and provides research and training for professionals.
