About The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary takes in unwanted and stray animals and finds them new homes. It began in 1967, when its founding members rescued strays and paid for them to stay in boarding kennels and catteries around the county.

That year, a photo of founder Miss Gray feeding ponies on Port Meadow one cold Christmas led Miss Sybil Morley to get in touch. Her gifts of £1,000 and then £5,000 let the Society buy the South Oxfordshire Hunt's old kennels and stables in Stadhampton, which volunteers turned into kennels. In July 1970, 35 animals moved in from boarding homes across the county.

Today the sanctuary takes in around 700 animals a year and has found homes for more than 30,000 since 1967. At any one time it can have up to 30 dogs, 60 cats and kittens and 20 rabbits, plus three goats who live there for good. It never puts a healthy animal down, and animals it can't rehome stay for the rest of their lives.

Every time a supporter shops online through Voucher Magpie with The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary chosen, we donate 50% of the commission the shop pays us to the sanctuary, at no extra cost to the shopper.
