About Recyke y'Bike

Recyke y'Bike is a charity in North East England that refurbishes bikes donated by the public. It sells them at fair prices, with a full safety check and a warranty, from its shops in Byker, Newcastle and Chester-le-Street, and services customers' bikes in its two workshops. The money helps pay for its charitable work.

It has been running since 2006 and joined the Charity Commission register in 2008. Bikes that can't be saved are stripped for parts so that as much as possible is reused or recycled; by its own figures, it saved 4,000 bikes from landfill in 2024.

Through its referral scheme, people on very low incomes in Newcastle and County Durham who are referred by a professional get a free bike, helmet, lock and lights. It also runs free Dr Bike sessions, street repair workshops for children, women-only maintenance evenings, a Saturday club for 13 to 17-year-olds and supported volunteering for refugees and asylum seekers. By its own figures, it gave away 115 bikes in 2025. The register lists 6 trustees and 50 volunteers.

Every time a supporter shops online through Voucher Magpie with Recyke y'Bike chosen, we donate 50% of the commission the shop pays us to Recyke y'Bike, at no extra cost to the shopper.
