Bugalugs Pet Care is a family-owned grooming brand from Workington in Cumbria, set up in 2020 and named after the owners' dog Max, known as Bugalugs. Its shampoos, colognes and sprays are made at the Lakeland Cosmetics factory on the edge of the Lake District, and the brand describes them as cruelty free. You may already have seen it at Pets at Home, Asda, Sainsbury's or Boots.

Buying direct suits dog and cat owners who bath their pets at home and like a choice of scents, plus anyone who wants the seasonal limited editions or a regular delivery of the same shampoo.

The Baby Fresh Dog Shampoo is one of the brand's best sellers. It comes in a 500ml pump bottle with a baby-powder scent and is suitable for puppies over eight weeks. If your dog prefers something fruitier, the Oatmeal shampoo with coconut and lime uses colloidal oatmeal and aloe vera and is the same £11.99.

Between baths, the fragrance-free Glove Pet Wipes slip over your hand for muddy paws and a quick wipe-down. The Deshedding Brush at £13.99 has a wide stainless-steel comb for loose undercoat on dogs, cats and even horses. Cat owners can pick up the shampoo and cologne duo, now £19.99.

For autumn, the limited-edition Pumpkin Latte range pairs a 500ml shampoo with a 200ml cologne. Bugalugs also sells dental care, lick mats and supplements, but we've stuck to grooming here.

Orders are packed in Cumbria from Monday to Friday and usually arrive in two to four days. Allow a couple of extra days if you live in the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland or on an island. Bugalugs also delivers to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and Ireland, though not every product can go to Ireland. You can pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. There's no pay-later option. If you run a grooming business, the 5-litre shampoos and the separate Groomers Club are worth a look.
