Purple Parking started as a Heathrow park and ride in 1990, run from a site in Southall with three buses. The family behind it had been in the motor trade since 1925, when the first garage opened in Ickenham. Meet and Greet followed in 1995, and the business took the Purple Parking name when it moved online. It says it has now parked more than 9 million cars.

Today the site is a one-stop shop for the airport part of a holiday. It compares parking at every major UK airport, including official airport car parks and operators such as APH, NCP, Airparks and Maple Manor. It also books airport hotels with parking, lounge passes, port parking and transfers at your destination. It suits families and anyone who wants all the airport extras in one booking, with no booking fees.

What's worth a look

Six options from the Purple Parking site, with the 'from' prices it shows today. Your price depends on your dates.

Purple Parking lists Gatwick parking from £33.75 a week, comparing park and ride sites such as Cophall and APH. At Manchester, weekly parking starts at £42.02. If you have an early flight, the hotel deals are worth comparing with parking alone: the Ibis at Birmingham Airport is a two-minute walk from the terminal and is listed from £41 a night.

Away from the UK, airport transfers cover more than 4,000 destinations, from shared shuttles to private cars and minibuses for groups. You can book the return leg at the same time.
