YOSE POWER makes e-bike batteries and conversion kits, and its UK site sells them from a UK warehouse. A conversion kit swaps one of your bike's wheels for a wheel with a hub motor, and adds a controller, display, pedal sensor, brake levers and throttle, so you can turn a bike you already love into an electric one. The shop also sells rear-rack, seat-tube and bottle batteries, replacement batteries for named e-bike models, and spare sensors, displays and cables.

It suits confident home mechanics, commuters who want help on hills, and anyone whose e-bike battery has faded. The company says it started in 2011 in Germany and has helped more than 400,000 riders across Europe. UK rules for electrically assisted bikes cap the motor at 250W, so the 250W kits are the ones to choose for road use.

What's worth a look

These kits and batteries are a good starting point.

The simplest way in is the 36V250W front conversion kit at £175, down from £185. It includes the motor wheel, controller, LCD display, pedal sensor, brake levers, throttle and a front light, but not a battery, so budget for one. For a complete package, the A3pro rear kit at £380 (was £405) comes with a bottle battery, charger and a torque sensor that adds assistance in proportion to how hard you pedal.

If your existing e-bike just needs a new battery, check the fit lists: the 36V 11.6Ah Phylion-style battery at £205 names a long list of Fischer models it suits.

Battery capacity matters for range. The 36V rear rack battery comes in 13Ah, 15.6Ah and 17.4Ah versions from £170. The 13Ah pack stores 481Wh and is rated for more than 1,000 charge cycles, so it's worth choosing the size that matches your usual ride rather than the cheapest. Each product page lists the controller, connectors and sizes included, which helps when you're checking that a kit fits your frame and brakes.
