Acer is one of the world's biggest PC makers, and 2026 is its 50th year. The Taiwanese company started out in 1976 as Multitech, founded by Stan Shih, Carolyn Yeh and five colleagues, took the Acer name in 1987 and is now based in New Taipei City. Its UK online store sells direct from the manufacturer, so you get the full range in one place rather than whichever models a high-street retailer has chosen to stock.

What it sells

Acer's ranges are easy to navigate once you know the names:

• Aspire: everyday laptops and desktops for home, study and work.
• Swift: thin and light laptops, including Copilot+ PCs with on-device AI features.
• Chromebook: simple, low-maintenance laptops that are popular for school.
• Nitro: the value end of its gaming range, laptops and monitors.
• Predator: high-end gaming laptops, desktops, monitors and accessories.

Alongside those are monitors for work and play, projectors, and accessories such as mice, keyboards, headsets and bags.

The 50th anniversary sale

To mark the anniversary, Acer has up to 30% off selected products across the store until 3 November. The offer covers laptops, desktops, monitors, gaming products and accessories, so it's a good time to look if you were planning an upgrade before Christmas. "Up to" means the biggest reductions are on selected models, so check the price on the exact configuration you want.

How to save more

• Compare the full specification, not the model name. The same Aspire or Swift comes with different processors, memory and storage, and the price gap can be bigger than the performance gap.
• Look at the previous generation. When a new version of a range arrives, the older one is often reduced, and for everyday use the difference may be small.
• Gamers should compare Nitro with Predator at the same graphics card. The card does most of the work in games, and Nitro is usually the cheaper way to get it.
• If you need a monitor, mouse or bag too, buy them during the sale, since accessories are included.
• Check our Acer page for the latest offers before you order.
