AOMEI makes software for backing up and managing data on Windows PCs. Founded in 2009, it says it has users in more than 180 countries, the UK among them. Its flagship is AOMEI Backupper, alongside Partition Assistant for managing disks, Cloner for copying drives, FastRecovery for getting deleted files back and FoneBackup for iPhones.

It suits home users who want automatic backups of their photos and documents, anyone upgrading a laptop to an SSD without reinstalling Windows, and small businesses that need to back up several PCs or a server. The free editions cover a lot, so you can start without spending anything.

AOMEI Backupper Standard is free and backs up files, partitions, disks and the Windows system. Backupper Professional starts at $39.95 a year for one PC and adds extra backup schemes, sync options and system cloning, which is handy when you move to a bigger SSD.

Partition Assistant Professional starts at $49.95 a year for two PCs, and a lifetime licence is $69.95. The standalone AOMEI Cloner is $39.95 a year or $59.95 for life if cloning a drive is all you need. iPhone owners can use FoneBackup free to copy photos, contacts and messages to a PC, with a Pro lifetime licence at $53.95, down from $59.95.

If you've already lost something, AOMEI FastRecovery is a separate data recovery tool for Windows; its Professional edition starts at $39.95 and covers unlimited recovery on one computer.

For businesses, Backupper comes in Workstation ($49.95 a year), Server ($149 a year) and Technician editions, and AOMEI Cyber Backup backs up VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines, SQL Server databases and Windows PCs from one central console, priced per device. Home users won't need these, but they're worth knowing about if you look after a small office.
