bOnline is a London telecoms company, set up in 2011, that sells cloud-based VoIP phone systems and business broadband to small businesses. It's aimed at sole traders, start-ups, shops and small teams who want a proper business number without a landline, especially with the UK's copper phone network being switched off by 2027. All prices are quoted before VAT.

Calls run through mobile and desktop apps or a desk phone, and the plans include features such as business hours, call divert, queues, hold music and greetings, with AI call recording and scoring on the top plan. Setup takes a couple of minutes online, and you can keep your existing number.

Plans are priced per user, so a one-person business pays for one licence and adds team members as it grows. You can choose 12, 24 or 36-month terms on the phone plans, and the business broadband ranges from a plug-in 5G router to full-fibre bundles of 115, 330, 550 or 1000Mbps with a digital line and unlimited UK calls included. There's also a shop for compatible Yealink desk phones, cordless handsets and headsets if you'd rather not take calls on your mobile.

The Starter plan is the cheapest way in, with a digital number, unlimited inbound calls and 100 outbound landline minutes. If you also need connectivity, the 5G Unlimited Business Broadband plan needs no engineer visit, with a router that comes with the SIM already fitted. Busier teams might look at Unlimited Calling, which adds unlimited UK landline and mobile calls and on-demand call recording. The top AI plan stores every call for a year, with transcripts, summaries and follow-up actions, which could suit sales teams or anyone who needs a record of what was agreed.

How to save more

• Compare contract lengths on the pricing page: longer terms cut the one-off upfront fee on broadband bundles to £12, against £50 on 24 months or £90 on 18 months.
• Remember to add 20% VAT if your business isn't VAT-registered.
• If you need both a phone line and broadband, price up a Full Fibre bundle with unlimited UK calls against the phone plan and broadband bought separately.
• Before you buy handsets, try the free mobile and desktop apps: you may find you don't need a desk phone at all.
