Govee: smart strip lights, TV backlights and lamps from the UK store

Govee makes colour-changing LED lighting that you control from your phone, and its UK store sells the whole range in pounds. It started with strip lights and TV backlights and now covers floor and table lamps, ceiling lights, star projectors, gaming light bars and outdoor lighting, from wall lights to permanent eaves lights and a Christmas tree you set up in the garden.

It suits anyone who wants to change the feel of a room without rewiring it: gamers and film fans after a backlight that follows the screen, renters who want lighting they can take with them, and people who like to put on a show at Halloween and Christmas. Most products run through the Govee Home app, with music sync, preset scenes and voice control, and the DreamView feature links several lights so they react together.

What's worth a look

If you only buy one thing, the TV Backlight 3 Lite is the classic Govee product: a camera on top of the TV reads the picture and the strip behind it spills matching colour onto the wall. The price depends on the TV size you pick. For a bedroom or desk, the Strip Light 2 can be cut to fit and goes from warm white for reading to full colour.

With the clocks about to go back, the outdoor range is worth a look too. The Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 fix under the eaves and stay up all year, so you can switch from warm white to a Halloween or Christmas scheme from the app, and they come with a three-year warranty rather than the usual one year.
