XTRONS makes replacement car stereos: Android-based head units that swap in for the factory radio or screen and add Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth calling and apps. The brand is based in Hong Kong but its UK store prices everything in pounds and ships from its own warehouse in Warrington. It suits drivers of older cars who want modern phone mirroring and navigation without changing the car, and anyone who wants a bigger screen than the one their car came with.

The shop is organised by car make, with custom-fit units for VW, Skoda and Seat, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Fiat and many others, plus universal single-DIN and double-DIN units for everything else. There are also headrest and flip-down screens for passengers, and accessories such as reversing cameras, dash cams, DAB adaptors and fitting cables. Main products carry a two-year warranty, and accessories 90 days.

For VW, Skoda and Seat owners, the PX94MTVDAB at £299.99 is a 9-inch Android 14 unit with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and the IQ94MTVP at £419.99 steps up to a faster Qualcomm chip with 8GB of RAM. BMW drivers have the most choice: the QUB10NBTH is a Linux-based 10.25-inch unit with CarPlay and Android Auto for 1 to 4 Series cars, down from £189.99 to £161.49.

If you only need one small upgrade, the ACCAM10802 reversing camera costs £29.99. The parking guidance on a big touchscreen is one of the most useful upgrades for an older car.
