Newlane is a small UK brand, founded in 2018, built around one product: a cycling helmet that folds. Flip the crown down, clip it, and the helmet shrinks to about half its riding height, small enough to slip into a rucksack or tote once you've locked up the bike or parked the e-scooter. It suits city commuters, people who cycle to the station, and anyone who has ever carried a bulky helmet round the office or the shops.

The range is short. There's the original foldable helmet, a Mips version with an extra layer designed to help reduce rotational forces in an angled impact, and a commuter backpack with a pocket shaped for the folded helmet. Both helmets are certified to EN 1078, the European cycle helmet standard, and the design has won a Red Dot Design Award. Newlane says the helmets are made in the UK with a glue-free construction that makes recycling easier.

What's worth a look

Here are Newlane's three products and the pages worth reading before you buy, with today's prices.

The Newlane Foldable Bike Helmet costs £99.99 and comes in black with orange, white or yellow tabs and foams. It has a rear size adjuster and a magnetic buckle, and comes in just two sizes: Medium (56-60cm) and Large (61-63cm). If you'd like the extra protection layer, the Foldable Mips Bike Helmet is £129.99 and folds the same way.

The Newlane Commuter Backpack (£69.99) is a 14-litre water-resistant bag with a dedicated helmet pocket, an anti-theft rear pocket, a padded mesh back panel and a luggage strap so it sits on a suitcase handle. It works as an everyday bag without the helmet too.

Newlane's helmets aren't sized for riders under 16, so this is one for adults and older teens.

Current offers

  • Newlane has an October special offer running; check the store page for the latest details.
  • The product pages show a 15% bundle saving when you buy a helmet and the Commuter Backpack together.
  • Students, teachers and healthcare workers can verify through Student Beans on the Student & Key Worker page to unlock a discount.

How to save more

  • If you want the bag as well, buy the bundle rather than the two items separately. Bear in mind that if you return one item, the bundle discount no longer applies to the other.
  • Standard UK delivery is £3.99 (2 to 5 working days) and next-day is £6.99, so only pay for next-day if you really need it. Orders placed before 2pm on weekdays go out the same day.
  • Measure your head before ordering. If the helmet feels tight when it arrives, open the rear adjuster dial fully once it's flipped into riding position: Newlane says this is the most common reason for a poor fit.
