LoveReading4Kids: children's books at 10% off that also fund school libraries

LoveReading4Kids began as a children's book recommendation site, with an editorial team reviewing new titles by age and genre. In 2022 it opened a bookshop with a twist: when you buy a physical book, 25% of the cover price goes to a school of your choice to spend on books (15% on eBooks). If you don't pick a school, your contribution goes into a fund for schools in need. It suits parents, grandparents and teachers who want good recommendations and like the idea of their money helping a school library.

Books are organised by age, from 3 up to young adult, and by genre. There are also handy lists of dyslexia-friendly titles, books for reluctant readers, staff picks and Books of the Month. Most books are priced 10% below the RRP, and many have a Read An Extract link, so you can try a few pages first.

For bedtime, Night Night Otto by Lo Cole is a picture book for ages 3 to 6 about an owl chick who won't settle down, priced at £11.69 instead of £12.99. Comic fans aged 7 and up can pick up Jamie Smart's latest Bunny Vs Monkey adventure, while teenagers who love fantasy will find Frances Hardinge's new novel, Traitors' Nest, among the Books of the Month. The site is worth a visit even when you're not buying. Its features section has themed reading lists, such as cosy crime for young sleuths, books about space and spooky Halloween reads for every age, along with author interviews and activity ideas. Children can also rate and review the books they've read, and their reviews appear on the site.

Current offers

There's no sale as such, because the discount is built in: most books are already 10% below the RRP, and that includes pre-orders. Delivery is free on orders over £40. Otherwise, Royal Mail tracked delivery costs £2.99 second class or £3.99 first class if you order by 3pm on a weekday. The shop delivers to the UK and the Channel Islands, but not to BFPO addresses.

How to save more

• Group your orders. Buying four or five paperbacks together usually takes you past £40, so delivery is free.
• Pick a school at checkout. It won't lower your bill, but a quarter of the cover price goes to a school you care about.
• Give a gift card (£10 to £200, valid for 12 months) instead of guessing what a child has already read. It works on LoveReading4Kids and the adult site, LoveReading.
