Skirting World is a Birmingham manufacturer that has been making skirting boards and interior trims since 2011. Rather than holding stock, it machines most orders from moisture-resistant MDF in its own factory, so you choose the profile, height, thickness, length and finish. It suits DIYers redecorating a room, people renovating a period home who need to match an old profile, and tradespeople ordering in bulk.

There are more than 100 designs, and every skirting board has a matching architrave. Beyond skirting, the site sells skirting board covers that fit over old boards, dado and picture rails, panel moulding and wall panelling kits, window boards, door frames and internal doors. MDF products come with a 25-year guarantee, and most orders are delivered by the company's own vans.

What's worth a look

Six products from the Skirting World site. Prices include VAT and are the starting prices for the smallest size; they go up as you choose taller, thicker or longer options.

The 330 MDF Skirting Board, from £11.42, is one of the shop's most popular designs: a traditional profile with some detail that still works in a modern room, and it comes in heights from 70mm to 400mm. The matching 330 architrave starts at £10.33 per length.

If your old skirting is sound but tired, the 330 skirting board cover sits over the top of it, so there's no need to rip anything out. For a feature wall, the MDF Wall Panelling Kit from £59.78 covers roughly 2.8 metres wide and 995mm high and lets you add matching skirting and dado rail. If you'd rather design your own layout, the Astragal panel moulding is sold by the length from £8.78.

The site shows prices both including and excluding VAT, so check which one you're looking at. There's also a minimum order of £50 excluding VAT, and deliveries are kerbside, with lengths up to 4.2 metres.

Current offers

  • Our current deal is 30% off all panel moulding. Check the price in your basket, as the panel moulding page was showing standard prices when we looked.
  • Free standard delivery on orders over £75 excluding VAT (over £150 for some postcodes), usually in three to six working days.
  • Up to five free skirting board and architrave samples from the samples page.

How to save more

  • Order free samples first. Most items are made to order and can only be refunded if faulty, so it's worth seeing the profile in your room before you buy.
  • Measure carefully and add a little extra for cuts. Wrong orders can only be returned at Skirting World's discretion, with a 50% restocking fee and a collection charge.
  • If you're renovating regularly, a trade account gives trade pricing and rebates based on spend.
