Artme: affordable canvases, paints and craft kits from Somerset

Artme is an online art and craft supplier based in Frome, Somerset. It sells mostly its own two labels, Artme and Exerz, and the focus is on everyday materials at sensible prices rather than premium artists' brands. That makes it a handy shop for beginners, hobby painters, teachers and anyone who gets through canvases quickly.

The range leans heavily on painting surfaces, with stretched cotton and linen canvases in multipacks, canvas panels, black canvases, canvas rolls and wooden boards. There are also pads, brushes, palettes, easels and storage, plus a growing craft section with modelling clay, resin kits, fabric and candle paints, oil pastels and paint-by-numbers sets. The blog has free step-by-step guides, recently on oil pastel techniques and glazing air-dry clay.

Most items are priced in single or low double figures, and many are shown with a reduced price against a higher list price. Canvases come in a wide spread of sizes, from small 20x20cm panels in packs of 12 to 40x50cm linen canvases, so it's easy to buy a batch for a class or a series of paintings. The site also sells in euros and other currencies for buyers in Europe and further afield, though UK shoppers pay in pounds.
