aZengear is a small London brand, part of Artdriver Ltd, that makes practical bits of kit to keep your outdoor gear going for longer. Its best-known products are self-adhesive patches for mending puffer jackets, tents and waterproofs without a needle, but it also sells emergency foil ponchos and blankets, fire starters and paracord bracelets. It suits walkers, campers, festival-goers and anyone with a favourite coat that has picked up a tear.

Most items cost around £10 to £19, and the brand says many of its products are certified carbon neutral through ClimatePartner. Fixing rather than replacing is the whole idea.

The emergency range is designed to be light and compact: foil ponchos and blankets that pack down to almost nothing, a ferro rod fire starter, and paracord bracelets with a whistle and compass built in. These are sensible additions to a hiking pack, a car boot kit or a Duke of Edinburgh rucksack.
