énergie Online is the streaming membership from the team behind the énergie Fitness gyms. It is run by Digitally Empowered Limited in Milton Keynes and gives you live online classes plus a library of recorded workouts to do at home, on a phone, tablet or laptop. It suits people who like a timetabled class but cannot always get to a gym, or who want a low-cost subscription to follow at home.

The service covers a wide spread of class types, from high-tempo interval sessions and indoor cycling to slower yoga, Pilates and stretching, plus dance-based classes inspired by ballroom routines. Live sessions run to a weekly timetable and you book a place through your account, while the recorded library lets you choose a session by length or style whenever it suits you. Instructors are introduced on their own pages, so you can find someone whose style you like and follow their classes.

What's worth a look

• Live class timetable: included in membership, currently £10 a month. Book a place in scheduled sessions such as Pilates, HIIT, dance and low-impact classes, led live by énergie instructors.
• On-demand library: included in membership. Recorded workouts you can start any time, from short sessions under 20 minutes to longer classes.

You do not need special equipment for most classes. A clear space of about two metres square, a towel and some water will do, though a mat makes floor work, yoga and Pilates more comfortable.

How to save more

• If you know you will keep using it, the yearly plan saves £20 over twelve monthly payments.
• Put a reminder in your calendar for the end of the free trial, and cancel at least 5 days before any monthly renewal if you want to stop.
• Skip buying kit at the start. Try the bodyweight classes first, then add a mat or bands later if you need them.
