GhostBikes started in 2004 selling pocket bikes and quads and is now a large online shop for motorcycle and motocross gear. It sells helmets, jackets, trousers, armour, boots, gloves, luggage, security and maintenance kit, plus a big parts section, from names like Alpinestars, Shoei, Spada, Airoh, Rev'It, Givi and Oxford alongside budget and own-brand lines. It suits commuters, weekend riders and off-road riders, and there are ladies' and junior sections too.

The Preston shop has closed, so everything is sold online, with orders sent from a warehouse in Bolton. Customer service is online only, on weekdays.

What's worth a look

Six products from the GhostBikes site, at the prices shown today.

If you need a lid on a budget, the Agrius Storm Discharge full-face helmet is £44.99, down from £99.99. It has an internal sun visor, a Pinlock-ready visor and ECE 22.06 approval. The Nitro NG-90 leather gloves are £49.99 instead of £69.99 and have a knuckle protector and touchscreen-friendly fingertips.

Boots are one of the bigger reductions at the moment: the Black Street Air ankle boots are £49.49, down from £159.99, with a leather upper, a water-resistant membrane and toe and heel protection, which makes them a sensible choice for commuting. For carrying a laptop or a change of clothes, the Oxford Aqua V 20 roll-top backpack at £64.99 is waterproof and has reflective detailing for riding after dark.

For security, the Oxford Micro XA5 alarm disc lock at £54.99 has a 110dB siren and charges by USB. If you do your own chain maintenance, the Oxford Zero-G paddock stand and pin kit at £149.98 is built for bikes with a single-sided swingarm.

Delivery is free over £25, and if you order before 2pm on a weekday many items go out the same day. Product pages show the dispatch time, which is worth checking if you need something for a ride at the weekend.

How to save more

• Use the Price Promise: if you find the same in-stock item cheaper at a mainland UK retailer, including delivery, GhostBikes will try to match it and add 25% of the difference. You can claim up to 7 days after buying, but it doesn't cover sale or clearance items.
• Keep orders over £25 for free Royal Mail returns. Below that, £3.99 comes off your refund.
• Exchanges aren't offered, so check sizing carefully on helmets and boots. Otherwise you'll need to return the item and reorder.
