Hayloft Plants is a mail-order nursery in Worcestershire that has been posting plants since 1994. It sells bulbs, perennials, bedding, shrubs, climbers and fruit and veg, alongside compost, feed and pots, and every plant page lists height, spread, position and hardiness to help you choose. It suits gardeners of all levels, from someone filling a few patio pots to someone planting up a whole border.

Hayloft is best known for Alstroemeria. It says it has the largest range in the UK, with over 60 varieties and collections, some of them only sold by Hayloft. October is bulb-planting season, so the homepage is full of tulips, daffodils, alliums and hyacinths at the moment.

What's worth a look

These six picks are a good starting point for spring colour, plus one Alstroemeria for next summer.

The Tulip Festival Mix is Hayloft's Gardeners' Choice for October, at £19.00 for 45 bulbs. If you want a lot of colour for not much money, the Blissful Spring Bulb Mix gives you 80 bulbs for £20.00, which works out at about 25p a bulb.

Each product page tells you exactly what you'll get, such as a pack of 15 bulbs or three XL plug plants. It also gives a hardiness rating, so you know whether a plant will cope with your winters. Alstroemeria 'Indian Summer' is sold as young plants: three for £24.00, or ten for £60.00 if you're filling a border. If anything arrives that you're not happy with, Hayloft's No Quibble Guarantee covers it. Its customer care team is UK-based and answers the phone Monday to Saturday.

Current offers

Through Voucher Magpie you can get Buy 2 Get 1 Free on all bulbs until 31 October 2026, and code SALE50 for 50% off the sale range until 31 December 2026.

Hayloft's own site is also showing:

• Any three selected Alstroemeria pots for £18, mixed and matched.
• Any three dahlia tubers for £15.
• A mix-and-match 3 for £30 deal on curated perennials.
• Free postage on orders of £75 or more. Below that, it's a flat £5.95 per order.

How to save more

• Buy the bigger pack. Most bulbs come in three sizes, and the price per bulb falls as the pack grows. Narcissus 'Jetfire' goes from 73p a bulb for 15 to 42p a bulb for 45.
• Combine your bulb order with any perennials or compost you need, so you reach £75 and don't pay the £5.95 postage.
• Stack the bulb deal with bigger packs. With Buy 2 Get 1 Free on bulbs, three large packs can cost much less per bulb than one small pack.
