Lock and Key is a UK supplier of locks and security hardware, with a phone line in Aylesbury and a distribution centre in Croydon. It serves both trade buyers and households, so you will find everything from a cheap locker padlock to heavy-duty keyless door locks for offices and communal entrances.

It is a good fit for landlords, small businesses and anyone fitting a key safe for a relative or holiday let. Prices are listed both excluding and including VAT, so make sure you are looking at the inc VAT figure if you are buying for your home.

What's worth a look

• Yale YE3B Aluminium Long Shackle Padlock: a lightweight teal padlock for indoor use on lockers, toolboxes and cabinets, currently £10.10 inc VAT.
• Lockey LKS500 Digital Key Safe: a mechanical push-button key safe large enough for bigger keys or several sets, with no batteries needed, currently £72.00 inc VAT.

These prices come from Lock and Key's own product sheets and can change, so check them at checkout. The same Lockey range also includes spare parts such as latches, return springs and key override adaptors, which is handy if you already have one of these locks fitted and need a replacement part rather than a whole new lock. Each product sheet lists the full specification, including sizes, finishes and keying options, so you can check a lock suits your door before ordering.

How to save more

• Compare the inc VAT price with other shops. Trade-style listings lead with the ex VAT figure, which can make prices look lower than you will pay.
• If you are securing several sheds, gates or lockers, look at keyed-alike padlocks so one key opens them all. It saves on spare keys later.
• Ask before you buy a door lock if you are unsure about sizes or fittings. Getting it right first time avoids paying to send it back.
